Serial Numbers

When information was transferred over from DMV to the LOIS system, each home listed one number (usually a partial serial number). If the home has more than one section the number may show in one of the following ways:

- 123456AB
- 123AB456
- 456789ABC
- 456ABC789
- 987654XU
- 987XU654

When entering changes to homes in the LOIS system, all information on each home should be updated, to include "breaking out" the serial numbers for multiple sections. To ensure that the serial numbers on the Ownership Document are correct, please use the following standard when breaking out these serial numbers:

- 123456AB should show as 123456A and 123456B

- 123AB456 should show as 123A456 and 123B456

- 456789ABC should show as 456789A, 456789B and 456789C

- 456ABC789 should show as 456A789, 456B789 and 456C789

- 987654XU should show as 987654X and 987654U

- 987XU654 should show as 987X654 and 987U654

Whenever possible, owners should be asked to verify the serial number information, especially if the LOIS system shows none.
