Notice of Sale / Change of Ownership
Clarification regarding the Notice of Sale/Change of Ownership form:
1) The purpose of this form is two fold. It can be used to record a sale or a change in ownership. Most other transactions can be done using the Multi-Purpose Change form.
2) A variety of documents may be attached to this form, including:
- Inheritance Affidavit
- Affidavit to Establish Ownership
- Bill of Sale
- Sales Agreement
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin
- Divorce Papers
- Death Certificate
- Copy of probate judgment
- Trust paperwork
4) Signatures:
- If the seller has signed the DMV title or bill of sale, the seller’s signature is not needed on the Notice of Sale form.
- If the buyer signed the DMV title or bill of sale, the buyer’s signature is not needed on the Notice of Sale form.
- If the security interest holder(s) signed either the DMV title or the Security Interest Change form, the security interest holder(s)’ signature is not needed on the Notice of Sale form.
