Recessed Lighting
Q. The Oregon One- and Two-Family Dwelling Specialty code was adopted as of April 1, 2003. There is a requirement in Article 1104.2.6 for airtight recessed lighting fixtures that is new to Oregon
The inspection of this fixture will require cooperation among builders, inspectors, and electricians. Because several of the recessed-can manufacturers have different set-ups for identifying airtight
cans, should installers leave a notice on the job at final inspection, stating that the can was installed according to manufacturer's requirements?
A. This is an energy requirement, not an electrical-code requirement. The installations must labeled and packing boxes should be left on site so that the inspector can make sure the product meets
requirements. See code update requirements affecting electrical contractors. Watch for future updates from the One and Two Family Dwelling Committee. (May 1, 2003 Tri-County Code Forum; approved
by state electrical code chief for statewide application)
