Panel Replacement

1. Q. If someone replaces an existing 100 amp panel with a new 100 amp panel and replaces the service entrance conductors without adding to the conduit, will they also have to upgrade the meter and the mast?

A. No however, replacement of the meterbase requires that the riser be brought to code. (Tri-County Code Forum, May 9, 2002)

2. Q. Could they replace all the wire?

A.Yes, as long as each component replaced is code compliant. (Tri-County Code Forum, May 9, 2002)

3. Q. If the wire in the mast appears to be 4 cloth covered and in good condition, could the amperage be rated at 100 amps?

4. Q. About changing out a panel: Is a lockout required for a a dishwasher? Water heater? Baseboard heaters?

A. On a new panel, yes. (Tri-County Code Forum, November 7, 2002-Approved by the state code chief for statewide application)

5. Q. When changing a service or service panel, will bedroom circuits need arc-fault protection?

A. No, the permit is only for service work. OAR 918-305-0000 applies to existing branch circuits. (January 23, 2003 Tri-County Code Forum; approved by state electrical code chief for statewide application)

6. Q. When changing a deteriorated and burnt panel in which all other elements of the service are reusable, is it required to bond the gas pipe system?
