1. Q. Can the owner of a house do the wiring if he is renting to his daughter?

A. No. ORS 479.540 allows that the owner or immediate family member may wire a structure under a homeowner permit as long as the structure is not for sale, lease, or rent. The full definition of "immediate family" of an owner is the owner's father, mother, brother, sister,son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, grandfather, step-son, step-daughter, brother-in-law or sister-in-law. 2. Q. Is a permit required for a homeowner to hook up a porch light?

A. No, if the porch light is a replacement, Yes, if the porch light is a new installation.
